We do not add any salt into any of the cereals on sale in Australia.

The majority of the ingredients that we use in our products are whole grains, and most of these are sourced from nature-friendly British farms. The rest of the ingredients that we use, such as crunchy nuts, juicy berries, tropical fruits, sugar and oil are globally sourced to ensure that our standards for best taste and highest quality are met.

Although these ingredients aren’t purposefully added to our recipe, we like to make you aware of other ingredients that are used on the same site just in case somebody eating the product has an allergy – we need to tell you about these just to be on the safe side.

We believe that natural foods that have been lightly processed are generally better for you – as they tend to be higher in fibre, vitamins and minerals. They also taste great too!

All fruits store energy naturally in the form of sugars, but they also contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. There are lots of benefits from eating natural foods that are rich in whole grains, dried fruits, nuts and seeds.

In some of our baked cereal recipes we use raw cane sugar as a natural binding ingredient to hold clusters of oats together and occasionally we add some honey for flavour too. We don’t add salt to any of our recipes and are actively looking at ways to reduce fat and sugar whilst retaining our great natural taste we know you love.

Because of our use of natural ingredients, our recipes will never be ‘sugar free’ or ‘fat free’; but we are committed to ensure they all provide a good balance of the nutrients, vitamins, minerals that our bodies need.

In some of our baked cereals and cereal bar products we use a small quantity of rape seed oil and palm oil that has been blended together. We use the absolute minimum amount of palm oil needed to ensure our products stay fresh for the longest possible period of time. As a natural food company with over 30 years experience, we have developed an optimal combination of natural ingredients to ensure our products stay fresh, without having to rely on artificial preservatives. We are now able to use 100% Certified Sustainable Palm Oil thanks to the opening of a new palm oil ‘refinery’ in the UK that will only use Certified Sustainable Palm Oil from Papua New Guinea. This means that we are able to guarantee that we will only use sustainable palm oil in all our cereals from the end of June 2010. Jordans has been a member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2006 – which aims to bring together businesses and environmentalists to promote sustainable palm oil production methods. We also purchased Green Palm certificates for 100% of our palm oil supply to ensure that Certified Sustainable Palm Oil was being produced and used instead of non-sustainable oil palm – even though at that stage we could not guarantee it was in our products. As a business that is also committed to supporting wildlife, we share the very real concerns of many environmentalists regarding the ecological consequences of rainforest deforestation for palm oil production. This is a complex issue involving not only the loss of habitat for the Orang-utan and Sumatran tiger, but also the needs of indigenous rural populations and smallholders who, to a large extent, are supported by the palm oil industry.

November 2011: In the recent WWF Palm Oil Buyers Scorecard 2011 which assesses the buying practices of major companies Jordans & Ryvita Company scored a maximum of 9 points. The Palm Oil Buyers’ Scorecard 2011 measured the performance of 132 major retailers and consumer goods manufacturers against four areas which show whether or not these companies are acting responsibly:

  • Being an active member of the RSPO;
  • Making a public commitment to RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil;
  • Disclosing how much palm oil they use;
  • Showing how much of the palm oil they source is RSPO-certified.

No, we don’t use any additives or food colouring in any of our products. We think there is enough good natural stuff out there already to make our products tasty.

Oats, nuts and seeds all store energy naturally in the form of fats, but typically these are ‘good’ fats (both poly and monounsaturated) that your body needs. These natural ingredients also contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients too.

In some of our baked cereals we add some natural oils to bind the oats together. We always seek to blend the oils that we use to provide the greatest amount of ‘good’ polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats and limit saturated fat content.

We are committed to reduce the use of ‘added’ oil and optimise the types of oils we use.

Yes - all Jordans products are suitable for vegetarians.

However we do use honey in some of our cereals which are made within the same manufacturing facility. There is a very small risk of cross contamination between products, so we cannot fully state 100% suitable for Vegans. Please see below link to our site, where you can find our full range of products with full ingredient and nutritional information.

We can confirm a full clean down of the lines are completed after each production run.

No - We do not recommend any of our products as being suitable for those avoiding Gluten. This is due to a protein called Avenin which is chemically very similar to gluten and can cause the same adverse reaction if you are intolerant to oats & wheat. Therefore we cannot 100% guarantee our products are wheat free due to the risk of cross contamination - although a full clean down of machinery is undertaken after each batch is produced, there may still be a small chance of contamination.

No - Our cereal products are not Kosher and have not been certified as such for some time. Some Kosher websites do state some of our products are Kosher but as they are not certified we always advise they are not Kosher.
